Get Involved!
“Welcome to the ‘Get Involved’ page! I’m a big believer in finding a cause that means something to you and taking action. There are a lot of issues occurring in the world right now, and sometimes it can seem overwhelming. But the great thing is, we can create positive change no matter where we are or what our circumstances may be. Change starts from within, and when we modify our attitudes and habits for the better, we end up wanting to share our positivity with others. Getting involved can be as simple as choosing not to litter and recycling, joining a club at school, or donating your time or money. There are all sorts of ways to help in your community and all over the world. Getting involved makes us feel proactive and productive, and the happiness we bring to others makes us feel great inside. So go out there and do something! If you need some help getting started, check out Volunteer Match, Network for Good, Young Women’s Empowerment Network, or Global Volunteer Network.”

Maiara volunteers with Equestrian Therapy, which is a non profit organization dedicated to special needs children and adults. The organization teaches children and adults how to horseback ride, and engages them in mentally and physically stimulating activities in a fun and supportive environment. She also co-hosted Girl Prep in Hollywood in March of 2009 and May of 2010. Girl Prep is a youth conference created by the Young Women’s Empowerment Network and sponsored by In a Perfect World. The conference brought 200 girls together from the ages of 10 to 13 and took them through self-esteem, leadership, goal setting, and youth activism workshops. Maiara led the self-esteem workshop, and will be hosting more events in the future.
